How to Check Free Storage on Any PS5 or Xbox in 30 Seconds
Quickly check how much free storage your PS5, Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S has, and what the numbers mean, before the GTA 6 preload on November 12.
Storage & Downloads
GTA 6 launches on November 19, 2026 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and digital buyers can preload from November 12. Before that day, the most useful thing you can do is know how much free space your console has.
Rockstar has not published an official install size yet. Until it does, any number you see online is a guess. Plan for more space than you think you need, and compare with games you already have installed.
Usable storage by console
The space you can actually use is lower than the number on the box, because the system takes part of it.
| Console | Usable storage |
|---|---|
| PS5 (original) | 667 GB |
| PS5 Slim | about 842 GB |
| PS5 Pro | about 1.89 TB |
| Xbox Series X | 802 GB |
| Xbox Series S (512 GB model) | 364 GB |
The guides below show how to check your free space, clear room before the preload and decide whether you need extra storage. We update them when Rockstar confirms the file size.
